The Good News from Haiti—and Why It’s Not Enough Yet
Right now, 44 boys in Haiti are going to bed with a roof over their heads. After months of uncertainty, violence and survival on a single peanut butter sandwich each a day, that is not a small thing.
But it is not the end of the story.
The Need That Started It All
Earlier this year, gang violence forced the Haiti Christian Orphanage to make an impossible decision: Stay and risk everything, or find a way out.
With the help of donors like you, 20 boys were relocated to safety in a new city. 10 older boys stayed behind in Port-au-Prince. When the government brought them additional children who had nowhere else to go, the orphanage found itself running two properties with 44 boys instead of one property, with twice the need and the same stretched resources:
Food costs skyrocketed in the new location.
School tuition went unpaid.
The boys were surviving but only barely.
A Director Gets on a Plane
Jasper, the director of Haiti Christian Orphanage, didn’t send an email. He got on a plane and flew to Fresno, California, where the Inspiration Travel Foundation is based, to tell the story in person.
He shared the reality of what life looks like for the boys in his care: the hunger, the uncertainty and the commitment of a small team that refuses to close its doors, no matter the cost.
Peoples Church in Fresno heard him. Their congregation responded with a generous gift. Combined with donations from other individuals who gave during Jasper’s visit, the total wasa $19,250.
That means both orphanage locations will stay open for another year.
“We wholeheartedly agreed that these boys deserve a safe home and a hopeful future—no matter the circumstances. Closing is not an option.”—Pastor Wayne
The Gift and What’s Next
$19,250 keeps the doors open, but it does not:
Put three meals a day on the table long term
Cover school tuition, uniforms or supplies for boys who are ready to learn
It also does not fully fund the staff who show up every day to love and care for children who have already lost so much.
Sustaining both homes requires $10,000 every month. The one-year runway buys time, but it does not buy permanence.
The Haiti Christian Orphanage team believes God expanded this ministry for a reason.
What Your Gift Can Do Right Now
The most pressing need alongside daily operations is getting these boys back into school. Tuition, uniforms and supplies are within reach if enough people respond.
Your gift, whether one time or monthly, goes directly toward keeping both homes open and educating these boys.
God wrote the first chapter of this story through the generosity of people who said yes. He is still writing. Give today and help us write the next chapter for these boys.
